Every month we’ll be featuring a new release that we think really shines. This month’s featured title is WOWsdom! The Girl’s Guide to the Positive and the Possible by Donna Orender!
Why We Love It:
We believe books are a mechanism for change, and WOWsdom! is going to do just that. Former WNBA president and PGA Tour executive Donna Ordender and her team at Generation WOW have brought together a powerhouse list of contributors—women, girls, and men from all walks of life—to share their hard-earned knowledge, hopes for the future, and advice for the leaders of tomorrow. We know positivity and mentorship are powerful engines for change, and we are thrilled to be part of the budding movement WOWsdom! represents. Donna and the Generation WOW team inspire us daily to build each other up and support the next generation of leaders as they strive to realize their full potential.
The WOW of Girls Meets the WISDOM of Women: What WOWsdom! is All About
by Donna Orender
In thinking about the why of this book, we knew we wanted girls to be better prepared for the adventure of life ahead. We wanted them to be more in the know, to help them be more aware, and to ignite the desire to be curious and to love learning—the easy lessons and the hard.
Life offers us many classrooms, and we realize that some of the basic lessons of life—the complex and the simple, the ones that keep us healthy and safe, the ones that teach us about money and moving forward—come to us later than they should or not at all. To be able to inspire and teach the things I wish I would have known much earlier than I did is one of the great gifts of WOWsdom! The Girl’s Guide to the Positive and the Possible.
Some of the coolest and smartest folks—women, men and the girls themselves—have come together to remind us of what is important: what goes into our bodies and what is good to keep out, the importance of our mental and physical health, and the ability to connect and to recognize it as a skill that keeps on giving. The secret stash is the kind of stuff that readers would want know but may not know where to find it or who to ask. Now they do!
My friend Yvette Angelique Hyater-Adams, a godmother of this book, said it best: “Let it be your chocolate cake and springboard—a friend and mentor. When you catch someone telling a story that looks like your own, smile or let the tears come. These letters are hugs, and this book is a gift. It is shared amongst generations, pure of spirit and filled with love.”
