Soundtrack: Liner Notes from a Pandemic Mixtape
Soundtrack: Liner Notes from a Pandemic Mixtape embraces the full range of emotions, just like a favorite song. In twenty essays and two bonus tracks written during the middle of the COVID-19 crisis, Alison Cupp Relyea taps into music’s ability to lift us up, mend and move us, even . . . perhaps especially . . . in our most troubled hours. Soundtrack gets to the heart of the matter, where close-knit relationships and soothing nostalgia helped us find hope and purpose during a critical worldwide challenge we all remember.
While the most difficult early days of a mysterious, fast-moving virus are behind us, Cupp Relyea reminds us that shared exchanges and observations we experienced then are, like music, timeless. Whether vulnerable family moments or the powerful influence of cultural icons such as Sinéad O’Connor, Patti Smith, or Tom Hanks, the author seamlessly intertwines lyrical descriptions, humor, and heartfelt storytelling.
This insightful memoir reminds us how curiosity and connection can create greater understanding of our surroundings and the people that shape us. Like homemade mixtapes curated with love and intention in pre-digital days, Cupp Relyea finds the right words and memorable rhythms that will resonate with you.
